Thus far Maksim is enjoying kindergarten at his new school. This morning he asked me to come in with him because new activities are on display outside the classroom. He showed me his self art with so much pride. He's learning and his spelling fills my heart with joy.
A couple of weeks ago during "Curriculum Night" us parents got to go to a meeting where our children's teachers explain the class program. The kids are working on reading, writing, spelling, math, and technology. There's software in the computers and tablets geared towards each child's learning. The program progresses with their strengths and works on weaknesses of certain subjects. They have their own login and password which completely blows my mind. They are required a minimum of 40 minutes of reading a week, and doing nightly homework called, "Home Link." Honestly, I'm giddy with excitement helping out with his school work.
Education has changed drastically since my early school elementary years. The open communication between parents and teachers is excellent. Parents are in-the-know of everything going on in school via teacher's email, classroom blog, district emails of upcoming events, and etc. Quite impressive. I've gotten involved by helping once a week in the classroom and taking the roll of the lead room parent with my two co-parents. Basically, we are the social committee of the classroom, organizing parties, collecting funds for the teacher's gifts, and etc.
Below are some of the stuff Maksim did at school. I've taken the liberty of taking pictures of his work instead of collecting the physical activity. My mother keeps them afterwards.
