This year is progressing at a rapid pace. It was only yesterday the beginning of summer and now back to school - in a new school. Furthermore Maksim is officially in kindergarten.
Surprisingly, emotion didn't get to me while dropping him off this morning. If anything, it was more of nervousness. Will he have anxiety going to a school with significantly bigger student body? Will he make friends easily? It turns out my worrying was for naught. Maksim was excited to the point of hurrying me out of the house because he was concerned of tardiness. He claimed he was older and braver so escorting him to his classroom was unnecessary. Perhaps what strengthened his confidence is having kids in our neighborhood as his school buddies.
Just as promised, we went for ice cream after school. During the ride home he enthusiastically told of his day, how he loves his new school, his new teacher, recess twice a day, gym class, play dough, eating at the cafeteria, Pete The Cat activity, and all the new things he got to do. His first day experience truly eased my anxiety. Mom and 5yo both happy. Win-win!
